mother venom: SPELLWORK
SPELLWORK, the new single from mother venom, is out now on all streaming platforms, with a visualizer directed by UV Animal.
mother venom calls SPELLWORK “a song about obsession disguised as innocent love,” and the record holds both at once: a soft, warm melody wrapped around the urge to make someone stay.
A love song with a spell inside
SPELLWORK sits in the space between wanting someone and wanting to keep them. The pull is old and familiar: the late-night thought that the right words, said the right way, could hold a person in place.
mother venom puts that impulse into the music itself. The song is the spell, and writing it becomes the choice to let the feeling live on the record.
Who is mother venom?
mother venom is an MC and vocalist of Black Jewish and Choctaw descent, based in LA by way of Sacramento. Her name holds both halves of her: mother, the nurturing side, and venom, the force that protects it.
Her work centers self-worth, heritage and the conversations most people keep private. She has built an Instagram audience of more than 40,000 through mirror work and frank talk about desire, sex, and dating. On stage she has hosted and performed across Sacramento’s independent circuit, from Ritual Assembly to the Magic Tøør Bus, and earlier this year she appeared on Shimo Media’s All Female Cypher 2.
